Construction of the Plains Road Protected Cycling Facilities will continue in 2023 Staff are currently working with Engineering to design the Prospect Street Cycling Facilities In future, Burlington Cycling Committee member will be providing more detailed updates from BCC meetings c.Traffic operations and signals Craig provided an update: staff working on area wide decrease of speed limits to 40 km/h in subdivisions staff is obtaining data and establishing criteria to identify locations for automated speed enforcement Members enquired about street calming initiatives and whether there was staff follow up regarding the suitability of calming efforts that may have been put into place some time ago, and may no longer be effective and/or relevant. Members flagged the need for better enforcement measures, outside of automated speed enforcement. Staff relayed that they do provide follow up reports to ward Councillors.d.Transit None.8.3Open streets proposal Nick reviewed ITAC's open streets presentation (created by members in 2022). This research and information will assist the committee's 2023 workplan goal to work with city staff on next steps to create a downtown pedestrian precinct.8.4Downtown streetscape project Becky Ellis and Ryan Stoneman provided information to the committee about the downtown streetscape project and civic square renewal early stages of this multi year, multi phased project. Details about engagement, design and construction tbd. project focuses on creating welcoming, safe and accessible pedestrian spaces civic square improvements to be accompanied by improvements on Locust and Brant streets. this project does not propose changes to the street lanes. Members enquired about dedicated cycling lanes and parking. The Cycling Plan does not identify cycling facilities for this project, and changes (if any) to parking have not been not determined.
