On motion, the minutes of November 29, 2016, were approved as presented.

Don welcomed new members to the committee and commenced roundtable introductions.

Visited7.2Election of Chair and Vice Chair

Jo-Anne conducted election of Chair and Vice Chair.

On motion, Don Thorpe, Chris Ariens and Brad Slade were elected as Chair and Co-Vice Chairs respectively for the term ending December 2017.

Visited7.3Citizen committee orientation
  • Jo-Anne provided members with an orientation including an overview of committee structure, terms of reference, roles, policies and procedures.
  • Jo-Anne distributed the booklet “Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) which is mandatory under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act for all volunteers and asked members to read, sign the back page and return to her at the next meeting.
Visited7.4Transportation update

Dan provided the following update:

  • Looking to run the bike rack giveaway program in 2017 for schools and businesses in Burlington.
  • Met with Metrolinx regarding bike share pilot project in GTA. Announcement to follow in the near future. One municipality in GTA will get selected for this bike share pilot project.
  • Waiting to hear if we will receive federal funding to update the cycling master plan in 2017.
  • Pilot project on New Street continues and staff will report back to Council fall 2017.
  • Bike repair stations will get installed in early spring. At that time there will be 5 bike repair stations in Burlington.
Visiteda.Communications & Events
  • Brad advised that library seminars will not be held this year due to poor turn out in 2016. The focus will be on getting into schools to promote bike safety and attending as many events as possible.
  • Jackie advised that the Hamilton Cycling Committee would like to partner with BCC for a Jane’s Walk & Roll around the Bay on May 6. Suggestion was made to have a “postcard” created to promote at Toronto Bike Show.
  • The following members volunteered to be on this sub-committee: Jeff, Phil, Jackie, John, Dave, Brett, Teresa and Brad.

    Action: Jo-Anne to discuss "postcard" with Communications.

Visitedb.Infrastructure
  • Chris advised of a proposal to enhance the Fortino’s plaza at Upper Middle Road and Guelph Line to allow three free standing buildings in the southeast corner of the parking lot and noted that it does include the addition of bike racks for the new and existing development for a total of 48 bike spaces.
  • The following members volunteered to be on this sub-committee: Glenn, James, Kinsey, Claudia and Chris.
Visited8.Other Business:
  • Dan advised that the Transportation Summit will be held on March 31 at the Art Gallery of Hamilton from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Members encouraged to attend.
  • Dan advised that MTO has indicated that there is currently no funding for bridges over the QEW.
