On motion, James Schofield, Chris Ariens and Jackie Lodder were elected as Chair and Co-Vice Chairs respectively for the term ending December 2019.

Jackie provided the following update:

  • Cycle tourism workshop in Toronto on March 1, 2019.  On motion, the committee approved an expenditure of approximately $260 for a committee member to attend the workshop.
  • Jackie would like to organize ward rides in the spring.  The committee agreed that this would be a great way to introduce cycling to the new members of council.

Chris provided the following update:

  • The committee reviewed the capital budget and discussed items that related to cycling.  After the discussion and feedback from the committee, James and Chris will prepare a delegation for the February 4 or 7 budget meeting.

Dan provided the following update:

  • Two upcoming community engagements for the North Burlington Active Transportation Plan at Conservation Halton on February 2 and March 7.
  • Staff is hoping to use March 28 Active Transportation Summit as training ground for those interested in active transportation and to show council how important and widespread the need for infrastructure is.
  • Wednesday February 13, seminar called Biking Beyond the Downtown in North York, no fee to register.
  • Cycling giveaways have been ordered and received. 
  • Planned for 2019 are Frances Road trail improvements and Upper Middle Road and Mainway hydro way improvements.
  • Suzanne gave an update on the Citizen Committee Action Lab.
  • Discussion regarding cycling on sidewalks and how the committee can put together a tip sheet regarding safe sidewalk cycling. ACTION:  Suzanne and Jackie to look at developing a communication plan around safe sidewalk cycling.
  • Don resigned from the cycling committee.  He is taking on a new volunteer role with the Heritage Advisory Committee.  He is still available to volunteer with the cycling committee.
