Dan provided the following update:

  • A conference call was held with Kate Whitfield, Alta Planning & Design, consultant for the Cycling Master Plan.  She provided some of her background, outlined the goals of the update, discussed steps for the project and asked committee about getting information on gaps in the cycling network and ideas for community engagement events that will happen in the winter.
  • Report regarding the rural roads safety assessment will be going to the Committee of the Whole on October 30.
  • Report regarding the New Street Pilot will go to Committee of the Whole on November 27.
  • Received great feedback on the BikeFest held on August 11.
  • Will email committee information regarding CanBike training.

Brad provided the following update:

  • Appleby Street Fest was very well attended and received positive feedback.
  • September 30 - Doors Open Bike tour leaving from Civic Square at 12 noon.
  • October 2 - National Seniors' Day at the Seniors' Centre at 11:30 a.m. - promoting active transportation for seniors.
  • October 26 - Seniors Ride of north Burlington leaving from  Roly Bird Park at 9:30 a.m.

Chris provided the following update:

  • City wide parking study report went to the Committee of the Whole on September 25 and contains some good recommendations for bicycle parking. 
  • Province announced the construction of new bike storage lockers at several GO stations and car pool lots across southern Ontario. Appleby GO and the car pool lot at the QEW and Guelph Line will be among the first locations. In addition, 28 bike rooms will be installed at GO stations over the next four years to expand storage and enhance security.
  • CN is seeking feedback on mitigation measures for the proposed Milton Logistics Hub.  This project will most likely have ramifications for cycling in north Burlington and members were encouraged to provide feedback.
  • Due to some complaints re: issues on Beachway path with cyclists/ pedestrians, suggestion was made to perhaps have some signage displayed at lift bridge and Spencer Smith Park providing some cyclist etiquette.  Suggestion was also made to put something in the Post re: etiquette.
    ACTION: Jo-Anne to follow up with communications staff to determine options for getting message out.
  • Don thanked all committee members who participated in Joseph Brant Days, BikeFest, the Seniors' ride and Appleby Line Street Festival. 
  • Dan advised that he attended a meeting with the applicant, Councillor Craven, Councillor Dennison and Festivals & Events staff to discuss the proposed 2018 Everesting Attempt.  Applicant was asked to submit an event application for events staff to review so they can ensure requirements have been met and determine where the City can assist.
  • Committee agreed to participate in the Santa Claus parade on Sunday, December 3, 2017.
    ACTION:  Jo-Anne to complete application.
  • Don advised that he went to several bike shops and asked if they would have a recycle bin for bike tires at their location and they are not interested in storing extra tires.
