Parks and Open Space staff is looking for one member of ITAC to help shortlist the recommendations which will then go out to the public to vote on. Carm volunteered to represent ITAC. Phase 2 for north Burlington active transportation strategy – received material from consultant and will be meeting with communications staff to talk about next steps. First engagement will be online showing a map and asking if anything was missed. Part two will be an open house at Conservation Halton. Cycling Plan – won’t be presented to Council in March. Hoping to present it on May 12. attending an escooter workshop on March 5 in Mississauga and will report back to the committee on outcome. Halton Safe Cycling event will be held on June 20 at Velodrome in Milton. An opportunity to get together with other Halton municipalities and police to discuss safe cycling practices for the whole region. Bike share staff direction – reached out and found out there is not a lot of interest for companies to run their business here because Burlington is too small. They would be looking for city to purchase the equipment (bicycles and stations) in addition to operating dollars. To purchase 200 bikes and 40 stations would be approximately $500,000 and operating costs would be about $200,000 per year. 7.3Traffic operations and signals Jeff shared: looking at automated speed enforcement program for Burlington. Toronto and Brampton have implemented it. Will be reporting to Council at a later date. late last year Council approved pedestrian crossovers, and there will be three installed on Brant Street this spring at Pine, Elgin and Maria Streets. Other locations are being reviewed across the city with a focus on Centennial multi-use path. installing an all-way stop at John and Caroline in the spring due to safety issues at that intersection. province has given municipalities authority to set speed limits by area instead of by road which enables city to sign at the entrance to an area and at the exit of an area which will help to reduce sign pollution. 7.4Integrated Mobility Plan update Kaylan was unable to attend the meeting and provided the following written update: consultant has been selected to undertake the Integrated Mobility Plan and once the report awarding the contract has been approved by Council, further details will be shared with the committee. will proceed with the Metroquest engagement tool to augment traditional engagement throughout the development of the integrated mobility plan. Kaylan attended the Hwy 407 Transitway public information centre on Feb. 11. Details can be viewed at: https://407transitway.com/brantToHurontario/consultation.html. 7.5Transit ridership and marketing update Catherine and Tony presented the following information: ridership increased about 5% since the new route changes in September 2019. seniors pilot update: ridership from June to December increased 39% compared to 2018; mid-day boardings increased 2.5 times; ridership outside of the free period did not change. 2020 updates: starting Jan. 1 children ride the bus for free; workshop with Council held on Feb. 25 regarding electrification of buses hosted by the Canadian Urban Transit Research & Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC); CUTRIC will be undertaking a modelling exercise with Burlington Transit; launch of MagnusCards on Feb. 25 (an App for people with cognitive disabilities on how to use transit); travel training will begin again in the spring and a new engagement bus will be launched; PRESTO device upgrade coming soon. May service enhancements: additional buses will be incorporated into the schedule to increase frequency - schedule to be confirmed and communicated to residents. 7.6Roundtable updates: a.Burlington Accessibility Advisory Committee Doug said BAAC continues to develop its 2020 work plan and has scheduled four dates at the farmers’ market from June to Sept.b.Burlington Cycling Advisory Committee No update.c.Burlington Seniors' Advisory Committee Tom said the committee had a preliminary work plan discussion, but decided not to go ahead and formalize a work plan until the advisory committee review is complete.d.Burlington Sustainable Development Advisory Committee Tim shared the following: subcommittees have had work plan discussions. the committee submitted comments to staff related to the climate action plan, advisory committee review and the Official Plan.
