No update.

Dan provided the following update:

  • Presented at the Ontario Bike Summit regarding the New Street Pilot Project
  • CanBike Training (in class portion) took place at City Hall, the riding portion takes place this Saturday.  The goal with CanBike training is to have instructors in Burlington so training can be offered in schools and through registered Parks and Recreation programs.
  • Promotion for Bike to School Week has begun. The City will be providing schools that sign up with either bike rack/scooter rack or funding that will go towards active transportation initiatives.
  • Bike to Work Day is May 28.  There will be an event in Civic Square at City Hall with local clubs and recourses represented.
  • Working with Metrolinx to promote the Bike to the Go campaign.  The campaign is currently focusing on the Burlington and Appleby Go stations. Ultimate goal is to get more people to cycle to the Go Stations.
  • Currently reviewing the Bike Share Program that is in Hamilton and the feasibility to bring a similar or the same program to Burlington.
  • The Cycling Master Plan will be going to Council after the election, not in June as previously planned.
  • Bike rack giveaway program is still happening.  Cycling Committee members are encouraged to promote the program to local businesses that currently don't have bike racks.
  • Kate will be attending the June Cycling Committee Meeting.

ACTION:  Dan will reach out to the organizer on behalf of the Cycling Committee to inquire on how they can become involved.  The committee is interested in volunteering to help as well as having a table with information/give-a-ways available.

James provided the following updates from the Ontario Bike Summit:

  • Book 18 is being updated to reflect modern cycling infrastructure options.  WSP is leading the group responsible for the updates.
  • Kitchener was announced as the third municipality to reach Gold Level status through the Bicycle Friendly Community initiative. Achieving Gold Level status will continue to be a goal for Burlington.
  • Cycle ON 2.0 was released.

ACTION:  Dan to connect with Kate to provide definitions for the terms used on the maps.

The Cycling Master Plan consultant provided maps for the committee to review.  The consultants are looking for consolidated feedback from the committee.  The Infrastructure Sub-committee will meet to discuss the maps in more detail.
