On motion, the minutes of February 28, 2017, were approved with the following amendments:

  • change date of the Ward 6 Love My Hood event to June 24
  • indicate that Chris did not attend the February 27 event in Toronto.

Visited7.1Transportation Update

​Dan provided the following update:

  • Safe cycling campaign Open House will be held on June 3 at the Velodrome in Milton - message "Share the Road". Politicians and area residents will be invited. Committee has been asked to have a display table.
  • Transportation Summit will be held on March 31 at the Art Gallery of Hamilton from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Hamilton/Burlington Trails Council is looking at developing a terms of reference for Hamilton/Burlington Mountain bike Association. Contact Dan if interested.
  • Working with both school boards for Bike to School event. Have purchased bike racks.
  • Bike to Work Day will be held on Monday, May 29 at City Hall.
  • Thanks to Infrastructure Sub-committee for input regarding rural roads in Burlington. Information has been passed along to Capital Works staff who will do a full inventory.
  • Received funding for Cycling Master Plan update.
  • Love My Hood event location in Alton this year - opportunity to promote active transportation.
  • Bike repair stations ready to be installed.
  • Metrolinx Bike Share Feasibility Study will be released soon.

  • ​Jackie advised that the name for the Jane's ride on May 6 has changed to "Trail of Two Cities". Unfortunately the Mayor and Councillor Dennison cannot attend but hoping that Eleanor McMahon, MPP will be able to participate.

Action: Jo-Anne to revise flyer and get copies printed.

  • Two seniors rides have been scheduled through the Seniors' Centre for April 20 and June 15. Members invited to participate if available.
  • Brad advised that they would like to have a Bike Maintenance seminar on Saturday, May 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. and Monday, May 15 from 7 to 8 p.m. but need to secure locations. Rolling Horse Community Cycle will be participating.

Action: Jo-Anne to check availability of civic square, lower lobby at Discovery Landing and space between Tourism Burlington and Pane Fresco.

  • Ward 6 Love My Hood event will be held on June 24 in Palladium Park - tables and chairs will be provided.
  • Will have display table at the Glenview School Rodeo on June 5. Dan will send out information when available.

  • ​Chris thanked members for contributing to the rural roads report.
  • Distributed and reviewed City of Vancouver document "Transportation Design Guidelines: All ages and Abilities Cycling Routes" and Chris commented that perhaps there are some best practices that the city could adopt. Committee supports this document to be considered in the development of the Cycling Master Plan.
  • Metrolinx sent out a survey to users regarding cycling and bike infrastructure at Go Stations.
  • Official Plan has been drafted and will go to a Committee of the Whole workshop on April 6. Suggested that members review and become familiar with the document.
  • Metrolinx held a public meeting on March 30 for Burloak rail crossing underpass. Suggested curbcuts to transition to multi-use paths.
  • Chris shared information from a State of Minnesota report which documented the impact of cycling in the state and noted that 6,000 jobs were created in the bicycle industry. http://www.startribune.com/cycling-in-minnesota-creates-thousands-of-jobs-and-cuts-health-care-spending-state-report-concludes/417240963/
Visited8.1Participation at the 2017 Ontario Bike Summit

​Don advised that Share the Road had kindly offered for one member of the committee to attend the Bike Summit in Toronto at a reduced rate and asked if there was any interest.

On motion, the committee approved the expenditure of $250 + tax to send a member (Teresa, James or Jackie) to the Ontario Bike Summit in Toronto on April 11 & 12.

​Members invited to participate in the April 1/17 Transit users forum hosted by Bfast.

Visited8.32016 annual report and 2017 objectives

​Don advised that the committee's 2016 annual report and 2017 objectives will be going to the April 3, 2017 Committee of the Whole meeting and noted that he will be in attendance to answer questions, if required.

Visited8.4Eco Film Festival

​Burlington Green will be hosting an Eco Film Festival on June 7 at Central Library at 6:30 p.m. - "Bikes vs Cars" documentary.
