  • The committee will talk about the new opportunity brought to them tonight about the learning forum, could this be integrated with NAAW

Adam led a conversation with the committee regarding the RespectTheSpace campaign and the need to update the materials and start to educate residents regarding the use of accessible parking spaces. Some of the questions raised:

  • Is there a process to complain or report a car parked in an accessible space without a proper permit?
  • Can a phone number be put on signage?
  • Can we clarify how enforcement is done on private property vs public property?
  • Is there education for property owners?

Judi advised the committee about the opportunity to participate at the Food for Feedback event hosted by engagement staff at the City.  The event takes place at Central Park on September 16.

Judi shared the Accessibility Progress report with committee members and requested feedback.  The report will be on the May 4 Environment, Infrastructure and Community Services Committee agenda.

Don commented that the city should be promoting/bragging about the accomplishments.

Judi opened the floor for questions regarding items on the Coordinator's report:

Cindy asked what the difference was between a service animal and an emotional support animal.  Judi clarified that a service animal is recognized in the AODA and the Human Rights Code, an emotional support animal is not.
