CARRIED

Dan provided the following updates:

  • Bike Month/Bike to School Week - giveaways were popular and widely distributed; webinars were well attended; cycling was promoted at schools via assemblies, pamphlets, giveaways, and teachers sharing information with students.
  • Plains Road cycling facilities - Cycling Committee is interested in having an event once the facilities are finished and further information will be shared with ITAC.
  • Moon in June event - Cycling Committee members attended to promote cycling.
  • Bike racks - four requests received. Organizations can contact Dan should they be interested in a bike rack.

Catherine provided the following written update to the committee:

  • OnDemand transit – working with Burlington Economic Development to determine an area for a pilot.
  • Original scope of the late night routes replacement was too large and staff will be scaling it down to a smaller area.
  • Fall service changes – Transit is hoping to increase service on some of the hourly routes, but are still facing resource challenges.

Pat shared that DesignABLE Environment Inc. presented a draft of the accessible parking design standards to BAAC. The committee recommended following or increasing the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards, and move to Type A parking standards which are bigger parking spaces. Some concerns noted were water pooling for those in wheelchairs or walkers, which is difficult to maneuver through and makes the area icy in winter; add accessible electric vehicle spaces and make EV charging stations accessible. Currently they are located too high for those in wheelchairs.

Jon said the committee had a table at the Moon in June event on June 4. Over 1000 runners and their families attended. All of the cycling giveaways were handed out at the event. Nick also joined the table representing Safe Streets Halton.

Peter shared that the committee is pleased to see protected cycling facilities will be added to Plains Road.

Tim said the committee discussed the Major Transit Station Areas. Subcommittees will continue to meet in the summer to review development applications.

Georgie advised that advisory committees are paused as of June 30th due to the election and may not meet again this year. Georgie will keep the committee advised via email.

Councillor Stolte thanked the committee for their feedback this term.

Chair adjourned the meeting at 7:36 p.m.
