Jackie provided the following updates:

  • 3 ward rides have been scheduled with enthusiastic responses from members of council
  • Wards 3 & 6 on June 8, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. leaving from Roly Bird Park.
  • Wards 1 & 2 on June 15, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. leaving from City Hall.
  • Wards 4 & 5 on June 22 at 10:30 a.m. likely leaving from Assumption Hight School (TBC).
  • Jackie will send out a doodle poll to see who from the committee will attend each of the ward rides.
  • Suzanne to get the ward ride information out on City of Burlington social media and provide information to councillors for marketing purposes.
  • After a brief discussion regarding what other organizations are doing in the community it was decided that Jackie will reach out to Rolling Horse to see if there are any partnership opportunities.  Claudia will reach out to MEC, the Burlington Public Libraries and Burlington Green for potential partnership opportunities.
  • Suzanne to confirm if Appleby Streetfest is happening in 2019.

Chris provided the following updates:

  • The Region of Halton strategic plan which includes active transportation is open for feedback until May 31, 2019 on their website.
  • Council approved a Climate Emergency Declaration which will be a good thing for cycling decisions in the future.  The cycling master plan should align with the climate emergency declaration.
  • The committee should be prepared to formulate opinions and understand the impact of removing green space for cycling infrastructure.

Dan provided the following updates:

  • Bike to work day on May 27, 2019 at City Hall from 7 to 9 a.m.  Dan will send the poster to Suzanne to send out to the committee.
  • The Climate Change Summit in March had about 130-150 people participate on the active transportation day.
  • Staff will be bringing the Integrated Mobility Plan to a council workshop in June or July.  After the workshop the plan is to bring the Cycling Master Plan to council, there is still one more engagement opportunity with the public, and the committee to comment.
  • Maple Avenue resurfacing project - it has come to the attention of staff that when the resurfacing of Maple takes place the street is not wide enough between Ontario and Lakeshore for bike lanes.  The committee discussed what options were available.  Dan will look at the plans again and share them with Committee.  Dan will reach out to Chris and James to discuss this further, and work with the committee to find a solution.

Chair adjourned the meeting at 8:30 p.m.
