Georgie welcomed new members and everyone participated in roundtable introductions.

Georgie provided orientation to new members (see attached presentation), and advised that a virtual city orientation session is scheduled for all advisory committee members on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. The session will go over the city's goals, values and organizational structure, along with policies, rules and procedures.

Dan provided background on the work staff has done to create a draft Cycling Plan for the city. A staff report with the draft Cycling Plan will be presented to the Community Planning, Regulation and Mobility Committee on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 6:30 p.m.

Dan also advised:

  • Plains Road, between Waterdown Road and Royal Botanical Gardens, will have a cycle track constructed on one side of the road and a protected bike lane on the other.
  • North Burlington Active Transportation Strategy has been underway for some time with a purpose of identifying opportunities to enhance safety for active transportation on city roads north of Hwy 407, including increased safety at trail crossings.

Georgie shared that the committee is without a Chair and Vice Chair as the members' terms have ended. The committee will elect a new Chair and Vice Chair at its March meeting. Members interested in either position are asked to email Georgie.

Georgie advised that the Cycling Advisory Committee needs to appoint a member to act as the committee's representative on the Integrated Transportation Advisory Committee (ITAC). The member would be required to attend ITAC's monthly meetings which are usually held the last Monday of the month at 7 p.m. and act as a liaison between the two committees; provide updates to ITAC on what the Cycling Advisory Committee is working on, as well as bring information back to the Cycling Advisory Committee on what ITAC is working on.

On motion, Greg Pace was appointed as the Cycling Advisory Committee representative on the Integrated Transportation Advisory Committee.

Rob shared details of the 529 Garage bicycle repatriation program. Bicycle owners register their bike on the site. If stolen and recovered, bikes are returned to their registered owners. They were able to repatriate 150 bikes last year. Halton Police has partnered on the project and Rob indicated there is an App that can be downloaded. There has been a 33% increase in the use of the App. Rob will provide an update with Halton statistics next month.
