Jim Thurston updated the committee on the Halton Older Adults Advisory Committee initiatives. This included the OAAC's involvement in the inspection of the Halton Region COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Oakville and information regarding the Community Safe and Well Being Initiative in Halton(slide deck attached) which locates groups that need assistance and determines how to best provide this assistance.

Ken provided an overview of the City Hall renovations conceptual plan. This included photos of the concept work as well as a fly through video of the design. This renovation is meant to have emphasis on the customer space by opening up the floor plan, enhancing the Service Burlington counter, trying to create social distancing components, creating one window for development projects, adding information kiosks and focusing on accessibility for all residents. The report can be found on the March 4th 2021, Environment, Infrastructure and Community Services Committee minutes

Jim Young was appointed as the Burlington Seniors' Advisory Committee representative for the Integrated Transportation Advisory Committee in the interim.

Rob followed up with the Active Aging Plan from the previous meeting, answering any questions regarding the document as a whole.

ACTION: The committee will look into the call to action items further so that next meeting this can be discussed in greater detail.

The workplan for 2021 was discussed.

This included:

  • Looking into the call to action items from the Active Aging Plan.
  • Having events run through the library as virtual sessions.
  • Ensuring that Seniors month in June is celebrated.
  • Providing feedback on reports going to committees. Ex: the Housing Strategy and the Integrated Mobility Plan.

NOTE: this will have changed with new updates from the Province

Deepti updated the committee on the Burlington Public Library services during COVID-19. Service is beginning to open at Central branch, and other branches started to open once Halton was moved into the red zone. Computers have started to be booked and appointments can be made by going online or by calling the library. Virtual programs are still going on such as Book Clubs, and some programs are running with the Hamilton Philanthropic.

Calls have been coming into the library regarding tax clinics that are held every year. They are not being run at the library this year due to COVID-19 but more information can be found on the website.

Wendy updated new members of the committee on what Burlington Ready entails. This is a place where residents can go in their community to get assistance such as when there is a power outage, heat wave, etc. Further updates will be available at the next meeting.

Jim Young updated the committee on the Burlington Inclusivity Advisory Committee. Elections were held for chair and vice chair and a discussion was had on having an Anti-Racism Task Force to address systemic racism.

Kristin discussed the upcoming Advisory Committee Orientation session. The video and slides will be made available online at a future date.

Georgie informed that certificates will be sent out to previous committee members to thank them for their contribution, until something more can be done with the City's new volunteer program, Better Impact.
