Marion provided a presentation on the proposed design for the revitalization of Civic Square.  She provided information and asked for feedback from the committee.  Marion also informed the committee on the next steps for the project, including some public engagement opportunities.

Ingrid proved a presentation on the two multi use pathways that are being renovated/created.  She provided information regarding the pathway design features and next steps for the projects.

On motion, Tricia Pokorny and Rachel Cloutier were elected as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively of the Burlington Accessibility Advisory Committee, effective March 14, 2019 for the term to expire December 31, 2019.

Judi provided the following updates:

  • Skyway Arena and park redesign team are discussing the scope of the programming.  The arena will be designed for sledge hockey, and will have the markings for wheelchair basketball on the floor when the ice is out. 
  • The committee discussed the David Onley report regarding the review of the AODA and the recommendations moving forward.  Judi suggested that any members that have not read the report should do so. 
  • The committee agreed  that the Readability project should kickoff for National Access Awareness Week.
  • The following members have agreed to be on the sub committee:  Rosemary, Cindy, Rachel, and Tricia.
  • The sub committee will meet separately before the next meeting to develop a work plan.
  • The following members have agreed to be on the sub committee:  Tricia, Rachel, Morgan and Cheryl
  • The committee agreed to plan to attend the farmers market three times over the summer and then add a fourth if the committee feels the need to do so.
  • The market would be a great opportunity to hand our the signage for the accessible Halloween initiative.

Sheila gave the following update:

  • The committee is currently working on their work plan for 2019.
  • The committee provided a presentation to council regarding implementing a pilot program for free transit for seniors during non peak times.
  • Advocating for sidewalks at Brant Hills community centre.
  • Planning for Seniors Month in June.

No update.

ACTION:  Tricia to reach out to the chair of the inclusivity committee to see if there is interest to have a member sit on BAAC.

Tricia brought up the pop-up patio program and asked for an update as this is the last year of a three  year pilot program. 

ACTION:  Judi will ask Todd Evershed (city staff lead on the project) to attend the April meeting with an update.
