Rob Hagley provided the following update:

  • provided the committee with a hand out 'Better Transit - 2019 September proposed changes'
  • Overview of changes that are coming to transit in 2019, the route changes and the reasoning behind the changes.
  • May 1st free SPLIT passes will be available for those that meet the criteria.  The application process can take up to two weeks to be approved by the Region.
  • Starting in June 2019, adults 65+ will can take Burlington transit for free weekdays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  • Transit staff is willing to come out for a group of ten or more people with a bus and machine to get a presto card.
  • Metrics for success are more adults 65+ using transit and increased ridership overall.

Dan gave the following updates:

  • The Cycling Master Plan will be going to committee and council in the fall.  One more round of public engagement will be done before the final version is completed.
  • North Burlington Active Transportation workshops were a success.  Two workshops were conducted with about 40 people attending. 
  • Two multiuse path upgrade projects are taking place.  Francis Road path and Heathfield trail. 
  • Active transportation bridge preferred site would be east of Brant Street behind Costco.  MTO is doing some work to the Freeman interchange, the City is looking to work with the MTO on the bridge.
  • Bike to work day is May 27, with activities taking place in Civic Square from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. 

Jeff Black gave the following update:

  • A report has gone to council regarding the use of red light cameras.  Staff continue to investigate potential locations for cameras and will report back to council with recommendations in the fall of 2020.

Jeff Black gave the following update:

  • Staff are investigating the use of photo radar in designated safety zones and school zones.
  • A Municipal working group is putting together a framework for consistency focusing on the enforceable/prosecution piece when notice is sent.
  • Staff will be going back to council with more details in 2021
  • The committee and staff discussed community safety zones, how many in Burlington, how a safety zone gets designated, and if thee is a role for ITAC in determining community safety zones/location of radar units.

Jeff Black also gave the following updates:

  • A report went to council regarding a road safety  lawn sign campaign.  A low cost 'slow down' message that neigbouring communities are using.  Staff looked to Niagara Falls for best practices. 
  • The City would manufacture and distribute the signs to residents who want one for their lawn. 

Doug gave the following update:

  • The three main initiatives that BAAC are focusing on are the farmers market, readability, and accessible Halloween. 

Councillor Stolte who also sits on BSAC updated that BSAC is currently working on and finalizing their workplan.

Tim Park provided the following update:

  • The Interim Control Bylaw has impacted development applications.
  • June 1 2019 the awareness campaign of painting yellow fish near or on catch basins will begin.  Goal is to remind people that what goes in the drains matters to the environment.
