The committee discussed celebrating NAAW by highlighting people and/or organizations that are supporting people with disabilities during the Covid pandemic.

Ron suggested Tetra Society be recognized for their efforts during Covid, Ron and Adam to connect to develop some questions for a hosted zoom interview with Tetra to be recorded and posted on the City's website.  Brenda volunteered to do the interview and will connect with Ron to arrange a time.

The Mayor will read a proclamation in to the record at the June Council meeting.

Cindy provided the following update:

  • the video with the Burlington Public Library is on the City's website, Suzanne will ask for this to be pushed on social media
  • Cindy has been speaking to staff at the Art Gallery for the next video, she will send them the link to the library video to see if they are interested in participating 

Doug provided the following updates from the April 26 meeting of ITAC:

  • discussed the work plan for the year - it has been suggested to investigate a relationship with BFAST as part of the workplan
  • On demand transit services are being implemented  - the pilot will run in Q4 of 2021 and launched in Q2 of 2022
  • automated speed enforcement (photo radar) is being discussed, concerns courts will be overwhelmed dealing with charges
  • the Integrated Mobility Plan (IMP) is moving forward, the need for people living with disabilities needing to be accommodated has been highlighted through the process so far

Ron provided the following updates:

  • the committee discussed a new Pride Pathway to be installed in the city, looking to the north part of the city for a location 
  • discussion regarding a new committee/task force regarding anti-racism
  • next meeting is tomorrow morning (May 14)

Judi provided the following updates:

  • the committee discussed who in the city was ultimately responsible for all documents to be accessible
  • the new accessible trail signage is confirmed
  • discussion regarding pop-up patios and the fact that they are on accessible, Councillor Bentivegna is going to follow up with building staff on accessibility of pop-up patios
  • discussion on if there an opportunity to do a 'did  you know' for accessible patios?
