James and Jackie spoke to students at Nelson High School about cycling.  During the prestentation they used the 'Complete Street Games' and had the students redesigning streets in Burlington.  James and Jackie were asked to present again to another class next week.

Jackie provided the following update:

  • Bike to work day at City Hall on May 28 was a success.
  • Cycling event to be held at the velodrome in Halton Hills between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Brad might attend.
  • Aldershot to host activities for the 101 activities in a day initiative on June 2 between 1 p.m and 3.pm.  Don will attend on behalf of the committee and promote bike safety. 
  • The next seniros ride is on June 14.  There are 12 participants signed up.  9:30 a.m meeting time at the Seniors Centre.

Chris provided a summary of the feedback discussed at the sub-committee meetings. The feedback was broken into the following categories:

  • General feedback
  • Aldershot
  • Downtown/Central area
  • Southest
  • North

Thank you to the sub-committee for all the work gathering and organizing the feedback.

ACTION:  Dan to forward the committee feedback to the CMP consultants.

Dan provided the following updates:

  • Don will be attending the Aldershot BIA display table from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on June 2 for the 101 day activities.  Dan will send the giveaways to Judy of the BIA so there are there for Don.
  • Bike to school week has kicked off.  34 out of 52 schools have signed up, highest participation in 5 years.  Schools that have signed up can choose to receive a bike rack or scooter rack or funding towards active transportation.
  • Bike to work day at City Hall on May 28 involved local bike shops, stakeholders and media.  Great prizes were given away.
  • Many business are interested in the bike rack program.  Keep promoting it.
  • Don and Dan presented at the Tourism Burlington AGM.
  • Consultants are being hired for the North Burlington Active Transportation Plan.
  • consultant Kate Whiitfield will attend the June meeting to discuss the Cycling Master Plan.

ACTION:  Dan to follow up with the Everesting event regarding the Cycling Committee participating as volunteers, having a booth, or both.
