Kaylan gave a presentation (attached) that detailed the Integrated Mobility Plan project, including the plan's vision, values and goals.

Georgie shared a list of draft items for the committee to consider for its 2021 workplan (attached). The list will be reviewed with city staff to add dates to some of the items and shared with the committee for review and approval at the April ITAC meeting.

Dan shared the following information:

  • Cycling Plan - endorsed at the Community Planning, Regulation and Mobility Committee on March 9 and approved by City Council on March 23. Next step is to start implementing the plan. When designing begins, ITAC will be consulted.
  • North Burlington Active Transportation Strategy - next step is to go out to the public with the Integrated Mobility Plan in May; details will be shared with the committee.
  • Plains Road protected cycling facilities - Approximately 3 km stretch between Waterdown Road and Royal Botanical Gardens that will include a cycle track on the north side and protected on-road bike lane on the south side. City staff are reviewing design drawings and Dan will share with the committee.
  • Sidewalk installation has started on north side of Harvester Road between Walkers and Appleby Line.
  • Bike Map (Cycling Map) - currently being updated.
  • Bike Month in June - run by Cycle TO (BikeMonth.ca). Previous events included Bike to School Week and Bike to Work Day. With the pandemic, the events may change this year. The city is a participant and more information will be shared with the committee.
  • Federal Active Transportation Fund Grant - Federal government has set aside $400 Million for active transportation projects. Burlington will be applying for funding to assist in implementing the Cycling Plan and rural active transportation strategy.

Jeff provided the following updates:

  • pedestrian crossings continue to be implemented across the city
  • a speed limit areas report is being prepared. The city is able to define an area with the same speed limit within that area. Georgie will circulate the report when it is finalized
  • staff continue to evaluate the feasibility of automated speed enforcement (photo radar) on Burlington roads

Catherine shared the following updates:

  • the downtown transit terminal will be open the last Thursday and Saturday of the month for customers to pick up passes
  • Burlington Transit is offering transportation to people to get to vaccination clinics through specialized transit
  • transit survey asking how people are using transit during COVID is available at Burlington Transit | Get Involved Burlington

Doug said BAAC approved its workplan. The committee held a virtual anti-isolation webinar that featured Burlington Public Library. BAAC was pleased to see the Cycling Plan addressed winter control. National Access Awareness Week is May 30 to June 5. The committee is looking to recognize businesses that go out their way to make their business accessible.
