  • Jo-Anne facilitated a discussion on the Advisory Committee Review and the proposed changes. Jim Young and Roland Tanner, members of the working group, were in attendance to answer questions. Committee members shared their concerns and Jo-Anne noted that further work is ongoing and the committee will be kept updated.
  • Danika advised that the City received a formal notice of intention to demolish buildings or structures at 5780 Cedar Springs Road and provided an overview of the property.
  • Danika noted that the Cultural Heritage Assessment study prepared by ATA Architects lacked comparative analysis, descriptions of the outbuildings and contained some inconsistencies between the analysis and conclusions reached regarding the cultural heritage value or interest of the property. For this reason, the City has engaged ARA to complete a peer review which she will circulate to members when received so it can be discussed at the December committee meeting.
  • Danika stated that she is preparing a recommendation report which will go to Council on December 16, 2019.
  • Danika advised that the City received a request to amend the legal description of Designation By-law 61-2008 for 3083 Lakeshore Road to remove the reference to the land parcel now known as 3087 Lakeshore Road as it was severed from 3083 Lakeshore Road pursuant to Planning Act consent application in 2016. The amended by-law will remove reference to “the remains of the ‘parterre’ landscape feature”, which described the remains of a cultural heritage landscape feature that once existed on the subject property. The property at 3083 Lakeshore Road continues to support the cultural heritage resource and accompanying attributes identified in the designation by-law.
  • Committee discussed and have no issue with this amendment. Motion - Heritage Burlington supports the proposed amendment to Designation By-law 61-2008 for 3083 Lakeshore Road. - CARRIED
  • Danika advised that the City received a heritage permit application for 470 Nelson Avenue to facilitate repairs of damaged/missing gable carvings on the front facade of the building. The owner is proposing to remove the existing front gable carvings and reproduce using Extira which will look identical to what is on the building now.
  • Committee discussed and reviewed the application materials. Motion - Heritage Burlington supports the requested heritage permit for 470 Nelson Avenue for repairs to front gable carvings. - CARRIED
  • Sharon provided an update on the status of the new website and showed committee members a draft of the site. Sharon noted that they have tried to keep it factual and informative while also being a resource or tool the public and homeowner can use easily.
  • Committee discussed logistics for the ERA workshop being held November 16 &17 and attendees were confirmed. Jo-Anne advised that she will connect with ERA for a copy of the agenda and will email to members before Saturday. Motion - Authorize an expenditure of up to $200 to purchase coffee and lunch for the workshop. - CARRIED
  • Howard reminded members of the Christmas event at Ireland House Museum taking place on November 17 and the opportunity for the committee to sponsor the wagon ride once again.  Unfortunately no committee members will be available to assist this year due to the workshop conflict. Motion - Heritage Burlington supports sponsoring the wagon ride at the Ireland House Christmas event. - CARRIED
  • Don shared some of the events planned for Heritage Month 2020.
